Project 4N to fill potholes starts in Kozhikode: The Times Of India
KOZHIKODE: Namukku Niratham Nammude Nirath (Let us fill the potholes on our roads) initiative of the district collector received an overwhelming response from the public and private firms. As the trial run of the initiative was kicked off on Thursday, motorists were finally able to drive smoothly on the East Hill-Karaparamba- Eranhipalam stretch.
The East Hill- Arayidathupalam stretch has been in a bad condition for more than a month as leakage of drinking water pipes and rain had damaged the surface. Shortage of government funds and delay in getting a nod for road work were being cited as the key cause for the damaged roads.
The district collector announced the Namukku Niratham Nammude Nirath (4N) with an aim to seek sponsorship from private firms for repairing the damaged roads in the district.
"Potholes that remain unrepaired for 48 hours or more will be taken up under the 4N project," said district collector N Prasanth. The repair work of roads which the Public works department and city corporation are yet to start will also be included in the 4N scheme, he said.
The district collector urged the public to voluntarily report the potholes and seek action. Apart from swift action, timely information on the development of potholes also is important. The dry run of the project was kicked off on Thursday by Mayor A K Premajam. The East Hill- Arayidathupalam stretch has been included in the dry run.
Those who contribute funds for pothole filling work will be given publicity on a digital screen installed on the road repair vehicle. The one square metre digital screen will display the name of the sponsor who funds the repair work that particular day.
The district administration initiated the project as a Facebook post by district collector received overwhelming response. The district collector had also convened a meeting of the stake holders including contractors, sponsors, officials with Kerala Water Authority and public works department before launching the project.
All those interested to sponsor the project can contact the district administration, said the district collector. The plan is to continue the project after reviewing the success of the dry run.
Work will be carried out after preparing a priority list of roads after evaluating the flow of vehicles and the traffic jam caused by the potholes. As the Uralungal Labour Contractors Cooperative society volunteered to provide workers and instruments for the work, the work was started on Thursday under the leadership of ULCC.
ULCC director M M Surendran, Cyber Park Administrative Manager T K Kishore Kumar, ULCC PRO Abhilash Shankar were present.

Innovative road repair project launched: The Hindu
KOZHIKODE: The district administration’s innovative project, “Nammakku Niratham Nammude Nirathu"(4N) or roughly translated as “we will fill the potholes
ourselves” was launched by Mayor A.K. Premajam here on Thursday.
The project, a brainchild of District Collector N. Prasanth, is aimed at
carrying out the patchwork of roads in the city by securing funds from
business houses, shopkeepers, commercial establishments, and
individuals. The pilot project will be implemented on the 5-km stretch
from West Hill Chungam to the Baby Memorial Hospital at Arayidathupalam
on the Kozhikode Mini Bypass.
The UL Cyber Park of the Vadakara-based Uralungal Labour Contract
Cooperative Society (ULCCS) had decided to donate funds during the
implementation of the pilot project, Mr. Prasanth said. The project will be implemented with the cooperation and support of the
public. More sponsors will be identified for the purpose. Its main aim
is to fill the potholes that have remained without repair for more than
48 hours. This apart, the work contract is not included in the Public
Works Department and the Kozhikode Corporation.
Usually the patchwork is delayed due to the technicalities in awarding
the tenders. Hopefully the project 4N would solve this, the Collector
said. An advertisement board having a length of up to one square metre
will display the name of the sponsor on the machine used for repairing
the pothole everyday with the tagline ‘Kuzhivazhipadu’ (Tribute to
Pothole).
The funds for the projects would be sourced from this method. Those willing to sponsor can contact the district administration.
The district administration has already held a meeting with all
stakeholders, including officials of the Public Works Department, Kerala
Water Authority, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. UL Cyber Park director
M.M. Surendran and administrative manager T.K. Kishore Kumar were
present on the occasion.
